Suc Dubh Passivhaus
Garry Adam’s own house. This building uses a Passivhaus specification and manages to keep our family cosy all year round without having a boiler or central heating system. The construction is of an experimental nature, using external insulation fixed to recycled masonary blocks to form exceptionally well insulated external walls. A black painted Russwood Scottish larch rainscreen creates an unusual yet low key appearance. The new house grows out of the old cottage which formed one of the walls of the walled garden. The house is roofed in standing seam zinc over deep I joists.
• Location: Kirkton of Craig by Montrose, Angus

• Energy Considerations: Passivhaus Specification, solar thermal panels, PAUL heat recovery ventilation system (MVHR), passive solar design, wood burning stove.
